The Health Secretary Matt Hancock and the Deputy Chief Medical Officer for England Dr Jenny Harries were quizzed on the rules set out by Boris Johnson during his coronavirus announcement yesterday evening. As Dr Harries answered a question Sky News’ coverage cut out and a blue screen appeared with no sound.

During the press conference, Mr Hancock urged Britons to join the newly-created NHS Volunteer Responders scheme.

The Health Secretary said: “The NHS Volunteer Responders scheme is a new scheme set to ensure local services get the help they need.

“We are seeking a quarter of a million volunteers.

“We’re seeking people in good health to help the NHS for shopping and the delivery of medicines and to support those who are shielded to protect their own health.”

At the time of writing Britain has the 10th highest amount of COVID-19 cases in the world.

The UK has over 8,000 cases in total.

The death toll in Britain is currently 422.

A total of 135 people have recovered from the coronavirus within the United Kingdom.
