As the coronavirus pandemic spreads around the world, cinema chains have been shutting down and planned release dates for some of the biggest Hollywood films have been shifted to later on in the year or postponed indefinitely. This includes the planned May release for Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow prequel movie. Since the delay, some MCU fans have called for the movie to be put straight onto the Disney+ streaming service.

After all, following Avengers Endgame, the shared universe franchise will now span across both cinematic movies and Disney+ limited series.

The first of these TV shows, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier, is due around the end of the summer, so surely Black Widow needs to be released before then.

Of course, it’s not as simple as that though as the multi-million dollar movie needs to make a profit, which is much easier at the cinema.

Nevertheless, an early release on Disney+ has received the endorsement of one of Black Widow’s stars.

And considering social media pressure from Marvel stars and fans in the past in successfully helping to make change come about, we wouldn’t be surprised if it did happen.

After all, James Gunn was fired and then rehired for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, following support for him from fans and the main cast members.

Black Widow is a prequel to Avengers Endgame and Avengers Infinity War.

The MCU film takes place in the aftermath of Captain America: Civil War.

The synopsis reads: “Natasha Romanoff finds herself alone and forced to confront a dangerous conspiracy with ties to her past.

“Pursued by a force that will stop at nothing to bring her down, Romanoff must deal with her history as a spy and the broken relationships left in her wake long before she became an Avenger.”

But is there more than meets the eye to this prequel?

Black Widow’s new release date is TBC.
