Winds of Winter release: George RR Martin working on A Dream of Spring simultaneously | Books | Entertainment

The last time George RR Martin published a book in A Song Ice and Fire’s main series of novels was 2011. Since then the Game of Thrones TV series began and finished ahead of his book narrative. And with the 71-year-old still writing the penultimate book The Winds of Winter, it’s now been almost a decade since A Dance with Dragons hit bookshelves.

The theorist continued: “Since the books series is so intricately crafted and relies on past buildup and events so much, is Winds taking so long because Martin is simultaneously working on Dream as well.

“Not to say that he is writing chapters for Dream but maybe just sketching the plot on a detailed level.

“If he publishes Winds now and then starts work on Dream, he has no other room/book to course-correct things if he wishes to later.

“Unlike for previous books where he knew he had a few books left to revise or course correct the plot.”

The author posted on his blog: “For those of you who may be concerned for me personally… yes, I am aware that I am very much in the most vulnerable population, given my age and physical condition.

“But I feel fine at the moment, and we are taking all sensible precautions.

“I am off by myself in a remote isolated location, attended by one of my staff, and I’m not going into town or seeing anyone.

“Truth be told, I am spending more time in Westeros than in the real world, writing every day.”

Martin even gave fans a quick teaser of how the book’s plot will go.

He wrote: “Things are pretty grim in the Seven Kingdoms.

“But maybe not as grim as they may become here.”

If he keeps this up hopefully The Winds of Winter will release this year after all.
