The latest episode of video podcast series Finding Freddie explores Freddie Mercury’s recording of the Barcelona album. 

Having hit it off with operatic soprano Montserrat Caballé, the Queen singer was now struggling with an aspect of the record.

In the new documentary short, composer Mike Moran admitted: “We got stuck for lyrics.”

“At which point Fred said: ‘Oh god, we’re lyriced out dear.’”

But Freddie didn’t despair, adding: “You know Mrs Rice, give her a call!”

The singer was, of course, referring to lyricist Tim Rice, best known for his collaborations with Andrew Lloyd Webber.

The EGOT winner was surprised to be involved, admitting how good a lyricist Freddie was anyway.

The Queen singer gave Rice total freedom, but emphasised he didn’t want something along the lines of “I love you, please be true.”

He added: “So we tried to lighten the atmosphere a bit in case it turns out to be a complete disaster.

“Of course, they got on very well.”

Freddie may be gone now, but his legacy lives on with Queen and Adam Lambert.

Brian May and Roger Taylor were touring earlier this year with the singer across Asia and Oceania.

The trio are now on an Easter break and are due to tour the UK and Europe from late May.

However, the coronavirus pandemic may see some dates postponed.

Right now only Paris, France on May 26 has been cancelled.

In the meantime, both May and Taylor have been entertaining fans on their Instagram accounts with micro-concerts and mini music lessons.
