Best movie streaming platforms: Which streaming sites are the most popular? Lockdown stats | Films | Entertainment

[ad_1]

According to fans’ Twitter accounts, a surprising contender has taken the top spot as the most popular streaming service.

That is YouTube, which over the course of the first week in lockdown earned 50,417 hashtags on YouTube.

The surge in popularity likely came from Joe Wicks, the fitness guru who is using the platform to share daily workouts for kids in his PE lessons.

Of course, YouTube offers a service where fans can buy and rent full movies, so those wanting to watch something which requires less physical effort can do so.

Next up is, unsurprisingly, one of the most famous streaming service on the planet Netflix, with 22,517 tweets.

Netflix has certainly ramped up its releases and it putting out many fantastic shows and films to help viewers away the hours.

BBC’s streaming service, the iPlayer, takes the third spot with a huge drop of 3,412, followed by Disney Plus, which earned itself 2,899.

Disney Plus only launched in the UK on March 24, therefore, it is likely it will gain a far greater appreciation from fans once they settle in to watch The Mandalorian or do a Marvel movie marathon.

Amazon Prime came in fifth place with 2,229 tweets, followed by Now TV on 701 and All4 with 428.

All4 is the second streaming service in the list to be the platform of a popular UK channel, after BBC iPlayer.

People are also switching onto these platforms to find out the latest coronavirus guidelines from the Prime Minister at his press conference and to hear news from abroad about the virus’ spread.

The final three platforms in the top 10 streaming services are Google Play on 416 tweets, BritBox with 261 and Apple TV with 169.

Apple TV is a fairly new platform, which is now hosting its own series and films similarly to Prime or Netflix.

Google Play, much like iTunes and YouTube, allows fans to buy and download movies once they come out and often includes fairly new releases before they come out on other sites such as Netflix.

BritBox is a new streaming service from the BBC and ITV, which includes box sets of classics.

However, given the coronavirus, iPlayer and ITV Hub have updated some of their box sets, meaning BritBox may not have had as big a launch as anticipated.
