Ms Bruce read out a message that the programme had been sent pleading for at least one family member to be given PPE equipment so that no one has to die alone from the deadly coronavirus. Donna Kinnair, the Chief Executive and General Secretary of the Royal College of Nursing, stated that nurses are thinking about ways patients can communicate with loved ones during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Question Time host read out a message that had been sent by a viewer: “I am so disturbed to hear that people are dying from COVID-19 in isolation without any family.

“Is it not possible to give PPE to at least one family member so that patients did not have to die alone?”

Ms Bruce added: “When we heard about the 13-year-old boy I cried when I heard that.

“The thought of a child dying alone is just unbearable.”

Ms Kinnair replied: “It wouldn’t surprise you to know that nurses are thinking about this.

“Nurses are already thinking about how we can have family members communicating.

“We have already had donations of mobile phones so that nurses can talk to the patient’s relatives as they are delivering care by the bedside.

“This is why it is so important that we ramp up the manufacturing of PPE.” 

Worldwide there have been more than 1,000,000 COVID-19 cases. 

The death toll has reached more than 53,000 at the time of writing.

Over 213,000 people have recovered from the coronavirus across the globe.

The United States has the highest amount of COVID-19 cases in the world with more than 245,000 confirmed cases.
