David Bowie movie: Stardust biopic scene with Johnny Flynn – WATCH | Films | Entertainment

[ad_1]

Following the huge success of Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody and Elton John movie Rocketman, it’s hardly surprising that a film about David Bowie’s life would be in the works next. Titled Stardust, the movie stars Johnny Flynn as Bowie and his creation of alter-ego Ziggy Stardust. Now a clip from the upcoming 2020 movie has been shared online, giving fans a first look.

The scene sees Flynn’s young Bowie talking with his publicist Ron Oberman, played by Marc Maron.

Ron encourages the singer that he will go on to be a huge star, even though they’re struggling to sell him in the US.

Stardust focuses in on Bowie’s first visit to the USA in 1971 and the run-up to his third album, The Man Who Sold The World.

The film was originally set to premiere at New York’s Tribeca Film Festival, however, the event has been postponed due to the pandemic.

But while Bohemian Rhapsody and Rocketman had the original artist’s oversight and approval, Stardust is unauthorised.

Last year, Bowie’s son – film director Duncan Jones – tweeted: “Pretty certain nobody has been granted music rights for ANY biopic… I would know.

“I’m not saying this movie is not happening. I honestly wouldn’t know.

“I’m saying that as it stands, this movie won’t have any of dad’s music in it, & I can’t imagine that changing.”

Earlier this month, QI elf Dan Schreiber appeared on Radio One’s Screen Time podcast with Ali Plumb and revealed a fascinating story about David Bowie’s stage name choice.

Many fans will know that the music legend’s real name was David Jones but he knew he had to change it for his career because The Monkees’ Davy Jones had hit the big time.

The QI elf claimed that a David Bowie biography he was reading said the singer went with another stage name before settling on Bowie.

The young David Jones wanted to stick with his surname so decided to go with Tom Jones.

However, the young Tom Woodward was also using Tom Jones as his stage name and had become famous as a singer before the soon-to-be David Bowie.

The QI elf said: “Before he got to David Bowie, he didn’t want to lose the Jones bit of his name.

“So he changed his name and started recording as an artist under the name Tom Jones.

“And as he did that…Tom Jones exploded and he was like, ‘Come on man, what is this?’ And eventually, his third option was David Bowie.”
