The US is the worst affected country worldwide, seeing at least 792,759 cases and 42,514 deaths.

President Trump posted on Twitter tonight that he intends to sign an executive order to cease immigration into the COVID gripped country.

He wrote: “In light of the attack from the Invisible Enemy, as well as the need to protect the jobs of our great American citizens, I will be signing an Executive Order to temporarily suspend immigration into the United States!”

There is currently no timetable for the motion to be put into effect.

President Trump has been under fire for his handling and response to the outbreak.

On January 31, he introduced a temporary ban on travel from China in response to coronavirus beginning to spread.

Most airlines before that started to suspend flights to the region where the virus originated.

Trump said of the ban: “Everybody was against it. Almost everybody, I would say, was just absolutely against it.

“I made a decision to close off to China that was weeks early. And I must say, doctors — nobody wanted to make that decision at the time.”

At The White House’s daily press briefing the same day, President Trump downplayed the effect that coronavirus had on the US economy.

US oil barrel have dropped to negative value for the first time in history.

He said that he would consider halting oil imports from Saudi Arabia to help lift the market.

The President regarded the historic low in price as a “short term (…) financial squeeze.”

Worldwide coronavirus cases have reached 2,481,026.

As of Tuesday, 170,423 have died from COVID-19.

New York remains the most afflicted state, with 252,094 cases and 18,929 deaths.

State governors and the White House have begun moving towards reopening businesses in less effected states.
