Crafting has taken the UK by storm of late, with more time at home turning Britons into creative geniuses. Whether it is baking, cross-stitch, painting or knitting, more and more of us are reaching for the craft box.

With clothes shopping now only available online and facing delays due to the lockdown, some crafty people have started creating their own clothes.

Videos of people turning pyjama bottoms into dresses, using hair bobbles to tighten too-loose jeans and more have been circulating on social media.

Now one hack has emerged for transforming an old t-shirt into a skirt in eight easy steps.

Follow the guide below for how to craft your own unique skirt from a t-shirt.

5. Cut a piece of elastic which is the same length as the waist you are sewing for.

Insert the elastic – you can use a safety pin at one end to make this easier – and thread it through the casing you made in the last step.

This can be tricky, you can also use a wooden chopstick or some wire to help thread through the elastic.

6. Make sure the elastic isn’t twisted inside the waistband and then overlap the ends by one inch and sew the ends in place with a zig-zag stitch.

7. Manoeuvre the elastic back into the skirt casing and sew the opening of the skirt closed.

8. Distribute the elastic into the skirt evenly.

Then, place a steam iron along the waistband of the skirt flattening the gathers along the waistband.

And finally, try on your new skirt, pair it with a vest top for warmer days or a jumper for those cooler evenings.
