Game of Thrones theory: Jon Snow goes mad and Daenerys saves Westeros in book ending | Books | Entertainment

[ad_1]

Last year, Game of Thrones ended with Jon Snow putting Daenerys Targaryen down before she could take the Iron Throne. Instead of taking it himself, Aegon headed back to the Wall for a life in exile. But what if George RR Martin’s plans for The Winds of Winter and A Dream of Spring are slightly different?

A Song of Ice and Fire fans will know the 71-year-old author has said how Game of Thrones was an ending but not “the end” that he has planned.

Now a popular new fan theory reckons that Snow will go mad with the weight of responsibility of being the true heir to the Iron Throne.

And in the end, Dany will have to swoop in to save Westeros.

Reddit user Alchy-mist wrote: “What if Dany’s not actually the one to go mad in the books?”

They theorised: “Maybe erasing the character of FAegon Targaryen forced the show to merge his end game plot with Dany’s?

“Maybe being raised super strictly to be a perfect king sends him into a sort of mental breakdown once he finally gets there??

“So hear me out: Cersei’s made a hell of a lot of mistakes, and she’s about to pay for them being imprisoned by the High Sparrow.

“So she’ll do her walk of atonement blah blah blah, but by that point she is so broken down that she’s not the same lioness as before.”

The theorist added: “Dany comes in and saves the day, casts down Cersei just as Maggy’s prophecy said she would, and saves the seven kingdoms from the tyranny of the two.

“THEN we get the White Walker climax plot and thus, the bittersweet ending through it.

“To be fair – GRRM said the show ending is his ending, but of course we all agree there will be much more to it, and I think this might be the ‘much more’ part.”

Meanwhile, Martin is squirrelled away in a remote cabin where he is finishing The Winds of Winter in isolation.

The author has been sharing some updates on his progress with fans through his blog.

In one of his latest, Martin wrote: “I am still up in the mountains, doing the social distancing rag, and writing WINDS OF WINTER.

“I have good days and bad days, but I am making progress.

“The only thing I am writing myself is THE WINDS OF WINTER, as I have said many times…”
