Leeds United legend Trevor Cherry has suddenly died aged 72, the Championship club has announced. The defender made 486 appearances for the club in all competitions between 1972 and 1982.
Cherry was born in Huddersfield in 1948 and signed for his hometown club in 1965.
He would join Don Revie’s Leeds side in 1972.
In his first full season with the Yorkshire outfit he reached the 1973 European Cup Winners’ Cup final and the 1973 FA Cup final.
The following year Cherry played 38 league matches in helping Leeds to winning the First Division for the second time.
