London has already had a scorching Saturday, but it seems this heat is set to continue for a few more days. In fact, the capital will see a glorious 12 days of balmy temperatures in a row – just in time for the next May bank holiday.
Next week, London will see highs of 25C on Wednesday.
And luckily these highs of more than 20C will remain in place into next weekend meaning we’ll see yet another sunny bank holiday this month.
The UK remains on lockdown but restrictions have recently been relaxed, so Londoners can enjoy the heatwave in their nearest parks.
But remember, it’s still important to remain socially distant from those around you when sunbathing next weekend.
The Met Office forecast reveals the capital will actually see 12 days of sunshine in a row, with sunny spells continue long past the bank holiday weekend.
The forecast said: “Another fine day, with some further sunny spells and a slightly warmer feel than on Saturday, although there may again be slightly more cloud around than of late. Light winds. Maximum temperature 20C.”
The weather agency says the outlook for Monday to Wednesday reads: “It will be staying fine and dry, with plenty of sunshine during this period.
“Temperatures will climb by both day and night, potentially becoming very warm by midweek.”
From Thursday, May 21, the MEt Office predicts: “It is expected that this period will start very warm with good spells of long, fine and dry weather throughout.
“However, it is possible that following this, rain will develop across some western regions, perhaps spreading east at times whilst weakening.
“These unsettled periods carry the risk of strong winds, mainly for western areas, and rain may turn heavy at times, however confidence is low for this presently.
“There is a risk of a few thunderstorms forming ahead of any bands of rain. Probably becoming less warm, but temperatures remaining above average for the time of year.
“Towards the end of this period it’s possible we will see a return of more settled conditions, with further dry and rather warm weather.”
Met Check reports the warmer weather comes amid a shift in an area of high pressure.
The forecast read: “Last week it was sat to the west and northwest which allowed that colder air to sweep southwards bringing those frosts.
“Now that high is on the move and will be centred over or just to the south of the country in the coming days which allows warmer west/south-westerly winds to develop.
“These winds will actually bring a fair amount of rain to the far north and west of the country during the next few days, but further south the emphasis remains on dry weather with high UV and pollen levels.
“By the middle of next week maximum temperatures will be back into the mid-twenties across central and southern regions with some of that warmer air also extending into parts of the north and west.
“However, by the second half of the week model output is suggesting that low pressure will be moving in from the west bringing some rain along with cooler conditions, just in time for the Bank Holiday weekend of course.”
