Earlier this month, the Queen legend had to head to the hospital after ripping his Gluteus Maximus. Brian May posted on his Instagram a snap of himself in a face mask and admitted he had been engaged “in a moment of over-enthusiastic gardening.” Since returning home the 72-year-old has been struggling with the pain, but he’s appreciated the Queen fan art he’s received to keep his spirits him.

May wrote on his Instagram: “I’m so touched by every one of these visualisations – BE SURE TO KEEP SWIPING, dear folks !

“Each one restores a piece of me tonight as I wrestle with the physical pain which has settled on me the last few days.

“So strong and so persistent that I hardly feel alive.

“I will take these lovely visions with me as I search for healing sleep tonight. THANK YOU !!!”

May wrote: “So suddenly I find myself in a hospital getting scanned to find out exactly how much I’ve actually damaged myself.

“Turns out I did a thorough job – this is a couple of days ago – and I won’t be able to walk for a while … or sleep, without a lot of assistance, because the pain is relentless.

“So, folks … I need to go dark for a while, getting some complete rest, at home.

“Please, please don’t send me sympathy – I just need some healing silence for a while. I’ll be back – but I need the complete break. OK ? Thanks. Take care out there. Bri.”

Despite the difficulty, May continues to entertain fans with his Instagram micro-concerts from lockdown.

The Queen guitarist has also released a charity single with Roger Taylor and Adam Lambert.

The three performed the altered hit remotely between London and Los Angeles.
