The Wailers team up with Bob Marley’s family and Shaggy for new single | Ents & Arts News

The Wailers have collaborated with the late Bob Marley’s daughter and grandson, as well as Jamaican star Shaggy, for their latest single.

The legendary band – who toured with Marley between 1972 and 1981 – say One World, One Prayer is a “powerful song focused on unity, love and inclusion beyond cultural differences”.

Marley’s daughter Cedella Marley, 52, and his 23-year-old grandson Skip Marley feature on the track, which from the start appears to be reminiscent of The Wailers’ 1977 hit One Love.

As well as Shaggy, Puerto Rican singer-songwriter Farruko also features on the single to help “create a sound that effortlessly fuses reggae with Latin music”.

Musician and producer Emilio Estefan, a 19-time Grammy winner and husband of singer Gloria Estefan, is behind the track and said it seems even more relevant given the coronavirus pandemic.

He said: “When I wrote the song about two years ago, I wrote it thinking about how we, as human beings, have to love each other more, be kinder to each other and to nature.

“Who would have thought that we would be living this current situation, and that the message of ‘One World, One Prayer’ would resonate so strongly?”

Estefan continued: “We need to appreciate the simple things in life and especially the love that begins with our families and extends to our community and beyond, because in the end, we are all ‘One World, One Heart’.”

The Wailers are due to release a new album later this year.
