The Winds of Winter theory: Lady Stoneheart HUNTS Jaime Lannister after Red Wedding | Books | Entertainment

The zombified Catelyn Stark may have been cut from Game of Thrones, but she’s very much seeking revenge for the Red Wedding in books. A Song of Ice and Fire fans will remember the slaughtering of the Starks in A Storm of Swords. And now a new fan theory reckons Lady Stoneheart will specifically hunt down Jaime Lannister in The Winds of Winter.

Reddit user real_chocolatemonger wrote: “In A Storm of Swords, Roose says ‘Jaime Lannister sends his regards’ at the Red Wedding.

“Just an ironic passing-on of Jaime’s flippant remark from when they met at Harrenhal, of course, not a direct implication of Jaime as a co-conspirator, while on the show, he says ‘the Lannisters send their regards’.

“Maybe Catelyn hearing this makes Lady Stoneheart’s primary motivation to take revenge on Jaime specifically.”

Such a motive also has worrying implications for Brienne of Tarth.

Last year, A Song of Ice and Fire author George RR Martin teased Lady Stoneheart’s importance in The Winds of Winter.

In one interview, Martin was asked which missing storyline he’d have liked to see in Game of Thrones, and in doing so gave a big teaser for the upcoming book The Winds of Winter.

Speaking with ET, the author said: “Lady Stoneheart.

“Certainly, in the book I’m writing now that’s an important thread. But as you say, there’s so much there.”

Martin continued: “Even with a novel of ordinary size when you adapt it for television or film, it usually involves cutting and simplifying. And my books are not books of ordinary length. I mean even A Game of Thrones, which is the smallest of them, is like four regular novels.

“So, there was a lot to do. If we’d included everything in the books, we’d still be on season 1; would have been an eight-year-long season 1. There are hard choices sometimes, but that’s the business.”

While he told Chinese Esquire the year before: “After Catelyn’s resurrection, it was Lady Stoneheart who became a vengeful and merciless killer.

“In the sixth book, I still continue to write her. She is an important part of the entire book.”
