It was 50 years ago this month that Elvis Presley performed his third Las Vegas residency at the International Hotel. The rehearsals, opening night and subsequent performances made up the documentary concert movie Elvis That’s The Way It Is. Now the iconic film is returning to UK cinemas for one night only on August 13th during Elvis Week.
Speaking exclusively with Express.co.uk, author of a new book on the film David English said: “In every fan’s mind, it’s Elvis at his peak.
“He couldn’t do a thing wrong at that particular point.
“He really looked good and his voice was in good shape.
English pointed out how the cinema re-release is of the 2000 Special Edition of Elvis That’s The Way It Is.

In the opening night sequence, fans can spot celebrity guests.
These include Sammy Davis Jr, Cary Grant and George Hamilton among others.
Last month, Elvis’ ex-girlfriend and wife of the International Hotel’s president Joanie Shoofey gave an interview about Elvis’ first concert there in 1969.
The former Miss Nevada told Billy Stallings Spa Guy on his YouTube Channel: “Opening night he was so good.”
She continued: “I wasn’t an Elvis fan, but I was then. He was fabulous! He was like a miracle.
“He was like something you couldn’t believe, just tore the house down. It made a fan out of me and I’d seen him before.
“But he wasn’t like he was at the opening night of the International. He was really living it up and all the audience was too.”
Elvis: That’s The Way It Is will be in UK Cinemas for one night only on August 13 with tickets available here.
