Asda, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons share delivery slots update as demand soars

Getting a supermarket delivery slot has become increasingly challenging as demand continues to increase. Asda, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons have updated advice on delivery slots.
Coronavirus fears have seen a rise in the number of Britons heading online to buy essential groceries.
With most of the country in lockdown, people have been asked to stay home as much as possible.
Visiting supermarkets for an essential food shop is one of the only reasons Britons are allowed to go outside.
While it is permitted, the fear of coronavirus has caused many to try and order groceries online.
However, getting a slot has become more challenging for many customers.
Asda
Asda delivery slots are available to book 14 days in advance and there are a range of time slots available.
Shoppers can also sign up for a Delivery Pass which allows them unlimited delivery slots for a monthly free.
With demand high, however, the supermarket giant is not currently allowing new sign ups for the pass.
It has also revealed all shoppers may not be able to get a slot and vulnerable and elderly customers have priority.
A statement said: “Understandably the demand for online shopping is really high, please check back regularly as we continue to work on increasing our capacity.”

Customers who can shop in stores are urged to do so to help free up slots for those most in need.
Sainsbury’s
Since the coronavirus lockdown began in March last year, Sainsbury’s has continued to increase slots.
The supermarket now offers an impressive 800,000 shopping slots each week compared to 340,000 in March.
Shoppers who do not want to visit supermarkets are also likely to get a slot if they order online and opt for Click and Collect.
“We’ve increased the number of home delivery and Click and Collect slots available,” a statement explained.
“As a result, both our existing customers and new customers have access to more slots.”
Due to high demand, the retailer’s monthly delivery pass subscriptions are not available to buy right now as vulnerable customers are given priority.
Sainsbury’s website added: “We are not currently accepting new delivery pass applications, although we will continue to review this to make sure that we are best supporting our vulnerable customers.”
Morrisons
The supermarket chain has stated it is also experiencing a high demand for slots in recent weeks.
“We’re experiencing high demand for online groceries delivery slots please continue to check the website for further availability,” a statement said.
While getting a delivery slot may be more difficult, Morrisons has also encouraged customers to shop contact-free by using it’s expanded Click and Collect service.
Morrisons online operations director Miles Foster said: “We are doing everything we can to increase the amount of home delivery slots available but we recognise that the slots get snapped up quickly in lockdown.
“Click and Collect is an excellent alternative and is proving really popular with customers. Since the first lockdown we have expanded our Click and Collect service significantly and it is now available from 447 of our stores across the country.
“We have slots available now nationwide so our customers can get the groceries they need in a contact-free and convenient way.”
