The phone call between the Queen and the Archbishop took place on Tuesday afternoon ahead of Easter Sunday celebrations on April 4. Reverend Justin Welby said that it was a “great honour” to bestow the blessings on the Queen and the Royal Family.

Writing on Twitter after the phone call, Mr Welby said: “It was a great honour to have a telephone audience with Her Majesty The Queen this afternoon.

“I was able to update her on the work of @churchofengland throughout the pandemic and wish her a happy Easter.

“May God continue to bless and protect her and her family.”

The tweet was accompanied by an image or Mr Welby holding a smartphone to his ear.

Mr Welby’s social media post was retweeted by the official Royal Family twitter account on March 30 and confirmed the news.

Retweeting the original post, the official Royal account said: “Today The Queen held a telephone Audience with the Archbishop of Canterbury.

“As Sovereign, Her Majesty holds the title of ‘Defender of the Faith and Supreme Governor of the Church of England’.”

The tweet also included a link so that people may find out more about the Queen’s role in relation to the Church and other faiths.
