Avengers 5 theory: Thor Love and Thunder will introduce multiverse Thors from Secret Wars | Films | Entertainment

[ad_1]

Marvel Phase 4 has kicked off this year and it’s no secret that the MCU will be exploring the multiverse and time travel going forwards. Both were introduced in Avengers Endgame and the likes of Loki, Spider-Man: No Way Home and, of course, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, look to be focusing right in on these themes. Interestingly, Thor Love and Thunder is released after the latter two movies and with at least a couple of Thors turning up, we’re expecting quite a few more.

Secret Wars is the most famous multiverse comic book storyline from Marvel Comics and saw multiple versions of the same characters existing simultaneously.

After the Marvel multiverse collided, the action took place on Battleworld, which just so happened to be policed by variants of Thor from across the multiverse.

Now not much is known about Thor Love and Thunder, but aside from Chris Hemsworth’s Asgardian god returning, Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster is becoming The Mighty Thor.

So that’s at least two Thors and considering who the blockbuster’s villain is, we wouldn’t be surprised if more are on the way.

Thor Love and Thunder’s villain is Gorr the God Butcher played by Christian Bale. In Jason Aaron’s Marvel Comics line, this baddie takes on not one but three versions of Thor from across his millennia-spanning life.

The youngest is from the Viking era, the second is the one we know and the third is old King Thor who’s reminiscent of his father Odin.

With all this in mind, we wouldn’t be surprised if they’ll be set up to police Battleworld if Avengers 5 does indeed follow the Secret Wars storyline.

After all, there’s evidence that other new outings in the MCU will be introducing multiple versions of the same Marvel characters.

The fan started by pointing out how just prior to Thor Love and Thunder, Spider-Man: No Way Home and Doctor Strange 2 are expected to explore the multiverse in-depth as we previously mentioned.

They argued: “We have a leaked [set] image of [a] classic look Thor, wearing an 80’s biker-Guardians of the Galaxy outfit (from the comics), which could be Endgame Thor with a diet and a haircut, but could be an alternate Asguardians of the Galaxy Thor, possibly rooting from an alternate Infinity War.

“We know Natalie Portman will be playing Jane Foster’s Thor, possibly using Mjolnir, which is currently destroyed in the MCU

“Russell Crowe recently announced that he will be playing Zeus. This is obviously unverifiable, but if true could be an alternate version of Thor.”

On the Russell Crowe point, perhaps the Gladiator star could secretly be playing old King Thor?

The theorist continued: “Matt Damon will also be appearing; having appeared as an actor portraying Loki in Thor Ragnarok, and as Loki in the Kevin Smith film Dogma, Damon could be playing an alternate version of Loki.

“Following this idea, we could see Luke Hemsworth as an alternate Thor, and Sam Neill as alternate Odin. I would not put it past Taika Waititi to do a funky 80’s-inspired multiverse Asguardians of the Galaxy road-trip movie.”

Thor Love and Thunder is set for release in cinemas on May 6, 2022.
