Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle could threaten to “go nuclear” and reveal “a number of things” about the Royal Family if the Queen moves to strip the couple of their titles. This comes as a majority of the British public think Harry and Meghan should either lose their royal titles or stop using them, according to a recent poll. However, the Mail on Sunday’s Diary Editor Charlotte Griffiths told MailPlus’ Palace Confidential show that the Queen should be wary of “provoking Meghan and Harry”.

She said: “They have got a sort of enemy in the camp.

“They have a nuclear button they could press at any moment, there might be any number of things that they could reveal.

“If they provoke Harry and Meghan, they could be in trouble.

“So, if I was the Queen, I wouldn’t dare take those titles away.”

The Daily Mail’s editor-at-large Richard Kay admitted it was “a really thorny dilemma for the Queen”.

He continued: “When Harry and Meghan were told they could no longer use their HRH titles, it was made clear to them privately that stripping them of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex titles was something that could be done in the future, depending on what they did.

“The Queen doesn’t want to look vindictive or petty, but also, there is an element that Harry and Meghan love being the victims.

“So if they were stripped of their titles, they would dine out on that for the rest of their lives.

However, royal biographer Ingrid Seward admitted that it was “unlikely” the Queen would remove the couple’s titles.

She said: “I feel it would not be something the Queen would want to undertake at this stage of her reign.

“Perhaps Charles would remove all titles from his son when he becomes king.”

Unnamed senior figures told Evening Standard on Monday that there is “no appetite” to strip either Meghan or Harry of their titles.

A survey carried out by YouGov on May 17 found that three out of five people polled thought the couple should be stripped of their official titles as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.
