Queen drummer Roger Taylor announces 2021 UK tour and new solo album Outsider | Music | Entertainment

Before the pandemic, Queen and Adam Lambert were set to tour the UK and Europe last summer. However, those concerts have been postponed twice to 2022, meaning the band have had a bit more time on their hands. In fact, drummer Roger Taylor has been busy in lockdown recording a brand new solo album, which he’s now set to tour with this year.

It all begin in the first lockdown when Roger Taylor released a new single called Isolation.

Speaking with Express.co.uk at the time, we asked if another solo album – his first since 2013’s Fun on Earth – could be on the way.

Taylor replied: “Yeah maybe actually. That’s actually quite a good suggestion really. Once you amass a certain amount of material it does kind of make sense to put it into an album.”

Now all recorded and ready to release in October, Outsider is dedicated “to all the outsiders, those who feel left on the sidelines.”

On recording Outsider after Isolation, Taylor said: “I’ve had a bit of a creative spurt and suddenly found myself with an album, which was lovely.

“It was a surprise! I just found myself in the studio and they came out one after the other. It was a pleasure really.”

And just like Sir Paul and his lockdown album McCartney III, the instrumentation on the Queen legend’s new record is almost entirely him alone.

The 71-year-old said: “I have a brass section on one track, I have one of my favourite guitar players on a couple of tracks. Apart from that, I played everything yeah. It was enjoyable.”

Asked about which Queen songs he plans to include on tour, the 71-year-old said: “Probably obvious ones like Radio Ga Ga, A Kind of Magic and These Are The Days Of Our Lives. More of the ones I wrote because that makes more sense I think.”

Taylor also confirmed he will be mainly singing and playing the drums, but hasn’t quite decided on if he’ll play the guitar given he’s got a very good player in Jason Falloon.

He’ll also be joined by Queen and Adam Lambert keyboardist Spike Edney and supporting drummer Tyler Warren, alongside Goldfrapp live players keyboardist Angie Pollock and bassist Charlie Jones.
