Ozzy Osbourne: How Ozzy hinted Parkinson’s in new song – ‘Don’t know why I’m still alive’ | Music | Entertainment

This year, Ozzy Osbourne has explained the reason behind his postponing his tour and performance dates. The sad diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease is why Osbourne has taken a break from performing, though his family have been by his side throughout, as he told Good Morning America. But has he previously hinted at his diagnosis in earlier songs?

Speaking to Good Morning America this morning on January 21, Osbourne said of his diagnosis: “It’s been terribly challenging for us all.

“I did my last show [on] New Year’s Eve (which was in 2018.) Then I had a bad fall. I had to have surgery on my neck, which screwed all my nerves.”

He also thanked his fans for helping him and supporting him despite being forced to cancel gigs throughout 2019.

Osbourne considered: “They’re my air, you know. I feel better. I’ve owned up to the fact that I have… a case of Parkinson’s.

“And I just hope they hang on and they’re there for me because I need them.”

Osbourne’s wife Sharon accompanied him on the show, saying: “It’s not a death sentence by any stretch of the imagination but it affects certain nerves in your body.

“It’s like you have a good day, a good day, then a really bad day.”

Osbourne continued: “A year ago next month I was in a shocking state.

“I got a numbness down this arm for the surgery, my legs keep going cold.

“I don’t know if that’s the Parkinson’s or what, you know, but that’s — see, that’s the problem. Because they cut nerves when they did the surgery.

“I’d never heard of nerve pain, and it’s a weird feeling.”

Osbourne also said it was “killing” him that he could not be out on the road, and he is desperate to return to touring and performing.

His wife, Sharon, has said the duet is too emotional to listen to the whole way through, which is perhaps more evidence of why the song is telling this story.

Speaking on her show The Talk, she said: “I’m just so happy for Ozzy that it’s been well-received.

“I can’t listen to it all the way because it makes me cry. I just can’t.”

The new album, Ordinary Man, shows Osbourne walking in muddy water win wellington boots, looking far more natural and far less like his usual, performative self.

Speaking to The Sun in September, Osbourne revealed he had recorded the song throughout his health issues, which had caused him some heartache.

He said: “If it wasn’t for making this record, I would still be in traction, thinking, ‘I’m going to be lying here forever.

“I’ve missed music so badly. My fans are so loyal and so good. Up until making the album, I thought I was dying.

“But that got me off my arse. … It’s the greatest album I’ve done. … I said to Sharon that I didn’t feel like I’d made an album because we haven’t ended up screaming at each other.”

Clearly his health is a huge part of this work, so maybe he really has been hinting at this diagnosis for some time.
