The statue will be located in Kensington Palace’s Sunken Gardens from July 1 where it will stay alongside statues of Queen Victoria and King William III. The Sunken Gardens was a place close to Diana’s heart – and has sentimental memories for Prince Harry and Prince William.

Ken Wharfe, who worked as Diana’s long-time protection officer, told Vanity Fair: “It’s a very fitting place for the statue to be. The Sunken Garden was a place that Diana loved and enjoyed taking the children too.”

The brothers commissioned the statue for their mother in January 2017 on the 20-year anniversary of Diana’s death.

It will be unveiled on what would’ve been her 60th birthday, after being set back a year due to the pandemic.

The Duke of Sussex arrived in England and will be visiting the statue privately before the ceremony next week.

“There is a strong desire that this does not become a shrine.”

There will be security around the clock making sure that the statue is not damaged as well as conservators ensuring the maintenance of the statue.

The event on Thursday will be an intimate one due to Covid-19 restrictions and will only include close family members.

It will be the first time Prince Harry and Prince William have reunited since the Duke of Edinburgh’s funeral in April.

While many are hoping the reunion will heal the rift between the brothers, a source close to the brothers told US Weekly that Prince Harry has planned the visit to be a “fleeting” trip and will be returning to the US straight after the ceremony.
