Meghan announced overnight she is working on a new animated series for Netflix. The show will focus on a young girl’s “heroic adventure”, Archewell Productions said in a statement.
The girl, named Pearl, will learn “to step into her power and finds inspiration from influential women throughout history” during her journey, Meghan and Harry‘s production company added.
Very few details have been provided by Meghan or Archewell about the series.
However, a few supporters of the Duchess of Sussex believe Meghan may have drawn inspiration from herself when creating the character of Pearl.
This theory stemmed from the fact that Meghan’s name means ‘pearl’.
The website thebump.com stated: “Meghan is a girl’s name meaning ‘pearl’ that is related to the Greek name Margaret and the Welsh name Megan.”
This connection between the names may also lead to thinking the upcoming Netflix show was named after the Duchess.
One Twitter user wrote: “Did you know that Meghan’s name means ‘pearl’ in Welsh and Irish?”
Another shared a screenshot from thebump.com which explained the connection between “pearl” and “Meghan” and wrote, next to a heart-eyed emoji: “Her mind.”

A third added: “Read someone saying Meghan means Pearl in Welsh and Greek… and I also think she’s inspired by her 11-year-old self.
“What an imagination!”
This social media user had retweeted another person who stated Meghan was very similar to the inspirational and fictional character of Pearl.
They tweeted: “It will be easy to produce because she was ‘Pearl’ at 11 years old #MeghanMarkle #inspiration.”
This fan referred to Meghan’s long history of activism, started when she was a young girl.
DON’T MISS
Aged 11, she wrote a letter of complaint to Procter & Gamble after she found sexist an advert for its Ivory dishwasher soap.
The voiceover ended the advertisement saying: “Women all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans.”
The now Duchess of Sussex also wrote letters explaining her point of view to women she found inspirational at the time – civil rights lawyer Gloria Allred, the then US First Lady Hillary Clinton and news anchor Linda Ellerbee.
Meghan received letters of encouragement from all her recipients – and Ms Ellerbee even sent a camera crew to interview Meghan.
The 11-year-old said: “I don’t think it’s right for children to grow up thinking these things, that mum does everything.”
Meghan recalled her early episode of activism during a speech for International Women’s Day in 2015.
After recalling how “amazing” it had been to hear back from Ms Clinton, Ms Ellerbee and Ms Allred, the Duchess said: “The kids’ news show, they sent a camera crew to my home to cover the story, and it was roughly a month later when the soap manufacturer, Proctor & Gamble, changed the commercial for their Ivory clear dishwashing liquid.
“They changed it from ‘Women all over America are fighting greasy pots and pans’ to ‘People all over America’.
“It was at that moment that I realised the magnitude of my actions.
“At the age of 11, I had created my small level of impact by standing up for equality.”
Meghan will play an active role during the production of the show about Pearl, as she will serve as one of the executive producers.
Speaking about the new series, she said: “Like many girls her age, our heroine Pearl is on a journey of self-discovery as she tries to overcome life’s daily challenges.
“I’m thrilled that Archewell Productions, partnered with the powerhouse platform of Netflix, and these incredible producers, will together bring you this new animated series, which celebrates extraordinary women throughout history.
“David Furnish and I have been eager to bring this special series to light, and I am delighted we are able to announce it today.”
