In 1958 Elvis Presley was drafted into the US Military. During this time, the King of Rock and Roll was stationed in Friedberg, Germany. When he went out to serve he was in a committed relationship with his childhood sweetheart Anita, who later told all about what they spoke about behind closed doors.

Anita explained how Elvis was very different when she first got with him.

She said: “And Elvis was at that time; he was more like a normal guy.

“He didn’t have any dye in his hair, he didn’t wear the lifts in his shoes, and he had a beautiful tan. He was just like the guy next door.” (Via Elvis Australia)

She recalled: “We would go in the backyard and sit in the yard and look up at the sky. Talk about all the things we were planning on doing, like getting married, all that kind of stuff in the future.”

Anita also had a strong relationship with Elvis’ parents, Gladys and Vernon Presley.

This connection was important to Elvis, as he was extremely close to his mother.

The star was born a twin, but his brother – Jesse Garon – died shortly after birth.

Because of this, the mother and son were very close and discussed everything.

Anita went on: “And she said: ‘I can just see him running up and down the driveway in his little bare feet, this little blonde-headed boy’. Ya know, we talked about things like a lot.”

Of course, the pair didn’t get married or have children. Instead, when Elvis came back from Germany, he had his eye on young Priscilla Presley – who was just 14-years-old at the time.

Following a few more years of dating, Elvis and Anita split up, before he brought Priscilla to live with him in Graceland.

Before Priscilla arrived Anita found a letter from her addressed to the King while they were still together.

Anita recalled finding the letter and confronting the star. She said: “The letter it said: ‘Please call my dad. I want to come over there and if you call my dad, I know he will let me come, he will listen to you. I miss you.’

“So when he came in, I said: ‘What is this letter, who is this, this Priscilla, you said she was just a child?’ He got so mad because I found the letter.

“He took me and he shoved me up against the closet. He was so mad at me, just livid because I had found the letter.”
