Die Hard 6 cancelled: Bruce Willis prequel-sequel McClane ‘not happening’ but there’s hope | Films | Entertainment

It’s been eight years since A Good Day To Die Hard, the fifth outing in the Bruce Willis John McClane action series, was released. And since then, there were plans at Fox for a Die Hard 6 which was originally called Die Hard: Year One, before being renamed McClane. The plan was for the sixth film to be a hybrid prequel-sequel partly set in the NYPD cop’s early years during the 1970s with another actor, and also in present-day with Willis.
But since Disney acquired Fox and rebranded their film company as 20th Century Studios, Die Hard 6 has been cancelled.
Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura broke the news to Polygon during press interviews for GI Joe movie Snake Eyes.
He said: “Yeah, no, It’s not happening. But what was really interesting was we actually came up with an idea to do it.
“It was a project that wasn’t Die Hard that then, eventually, shifted over to Die Hard.”

Lorenzo continued: “What was interesting about our idea was it allowed you the ability to meet the young John McClane and use Bruce.
“So it was really interesting in that way. So you sort of got to see both versions of him. A bit [like The Godfather Part 2].”
On Disney, who at one point were rumoured to be considering a McClane TV series, he added: “I don’t know what their plans are.”
Considering Die Hard is a well established and much-loved franchise, no doubt the House of Mouse will be planning on rebooting it at some point or even bringing back Willis for further outings.
At the conclusion of the commercial, Argyle even said ‘Yippee Ki-Yay!’, to which McClane replied: “Hey, that’s my line!”
Back in 2017, Express.co.uk spoke with Jai Courtney, who played McClane’s son in A Good Day To Die Hard.
Asked if he’d like to return for a Die Hard 6, The Suicide Squad Captain Boomerang star said: “If that’s true, then sure. I love that stuff. If I get the shout? Then yeah. I’m sure I would.”
Most of the Die Hard movies are available to stream on Disney+.
