Caprice Bourret: Dancing on Ice star’s body language revealed after split from Hamish

Caprice Bourret, 58, sparked shock on last week’s episode of Dancing on Ice when she split from pro skating partner Hamish Gaman, 36. The announcement was made by host Holly Willoughby at the start of the show last Sunday. Holly said: “Unfortunately, Caprice and Hamish have parted ways.

“As you saw in our opening number Hamish remains very much part of our professional team and we hope to have Caprice back on the ice next week.”

No other explanation was given as to why Caprice and Hamish are no longer skating, leaving fans flummoxed.

The business woman’s new partner is now Swiss figure skater Oscar Peter, 38, and tonight they performed a cheerleading-inspired routine.

But what did her the pair’s body language reveal about the changes over the last few days as Caprice reveals it’s been a “tough week”?

Body language expert Judi James spoke to Express.co.uk about Caprice on tonight’s episode.

James explained the difference between how Caprice felt towards both Hamish and Oscar was obvious and the change had “impacted badly.”

“Hopefully her new pairing with pro skater Oscar has made Caprice feel more comfortable because sadly it appears to have impacted badly on her tentative-looking skating tonight,” James said.

“The model stood wincing openly at her scores of 6 and 6.5 and as sweet and as frozen as Oscar’s smile was standing next to her it looked clear that this couple would have gone off deeply unhappy about their performance.”

DON’T MISS

It would appear Hamish was a much more “dominant” match for Caprice while Oscar has proved to be a more “submissive” partner for the celebrity.

This meant Caprice looked as though she was “left to her own devices.”

“Hamish always looked like a strong and dominant partner for Caprice and as a result her skating looked beautifully confident and at times breath-taking,” said James.

“When you’re out on the ice with someone you know is lifting and holding you with absolute control it makes worries about falling over less acute and therefore allows for more stretches and relaxed movements.

“But there were presumably some off-screen problems for the duo though and tonight it was Oscar watching Caprice politely, respectfully and cautiously from a slight distance as though waiting to take his lead from her, making her appear left to her own devices in terms of balance and support.

Sadly, the dynamic between the new partners resulted in a “below par performance” – and both looking unhappy.

James explained: “Her arrival poses might have suggested Caprice was delighted to be with her new partner, standing with her chin and arm raised in gestures of victory and a wide, happy smile on her face but the way it was her instigating the high five with Oscar gave some hints that he was perhaps too submissive or in awe of the model, meaning overall the performance looked below par for the woman who had looked like a potential winner.”

It wasn’t just Caprice whom the changes in partner had negatively affected it would seem.

“Holly and Phil looked concerned about her week’s gap from the competition and the effect it might have had on her techniques and it was Jayne Torville who retained slightly flat vocal tone and smiled less as she gave her critique,” explained the body language expert.

“Caprice performed a small tongue-poke at the end to suggest she wasn’t happy, while Oscar stood beside her wearing a very incongruent-looking smile.”

There has also been no official comment from Caprice or Hamish about the reason for their split, but rumours of a fall out had been circulating.

However, a source told i News: “The partnership just wasn’t working for either of them and therefore they decided to part ways.

“Claims that Hamish pushed Caprice too hard in training have been dismissed as completely untrue.”

A representative for ITV said this week: “We’re pleased to say that Caprice is back on the ice today in training and very much working towards returning to the show on Sunday night.”

Dancing on Ice continues on Sunday at 6pm on ITV.
