Kate Middleton, Duchess of Cambridge, joined the Royal Family in 2011 when she tied the knot with Prince William in Westminster Abbey. Since then, she has been seen wearing some of the most stunning jewels including tiaras, bold necklaces and earrings. As well as her special pieces, the royal also has a tendency to opt for more affordable pieces.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, Nick Withington, Managing Director of jeweller William May, explained: “Kate uses British based designers and affordable high street brands, both contemporary brands like Monica Vinader as well as high street labels such as Accessorize. 

“Kate regularly wears affordable statement earrings and surprisingly many are under £150.”

One pair of Kate’s favourite earrings are her Monica Vinader Siren earrings which she wears a lot of the time.

They quickly became one of the retailer’s bestsellers.

The expert went on: “Costume or fashion jewellery is a great addition to any jewellery lover’s collection, especially for that season.

“Wear them and love them, but for resale value and longevity go for the classic real gold and or silver options that will last more than a season.”

Kate also has affordable pieces of jewellery in her collection which hold special meanings.

One of these pieces includes a gold chain necklace, featuring the three initials of her children on.

Managing Director of jeweller William May Nick Withington commented on the gold jewel.

He said: “The Duchess of Cambridge wears a personal midnight moon necklace.

“It is engraved with the initials G, L, C for her children Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

“The disc is held on a round link belcher/rolo chain 18 to 20 inches in length.”

Meghan Markle is also a huge fan of initial necklaces, with her sporting an ‘H’ necklace for several years.
