In a fundraising email to supporters, Mr Trump said: “It is time for Joe Biden to resign in disgrace for what he has allowed to happen in Afghanistan, along with the tremendous surge in COVID, the Border catastrophe, the destruction of energy independence, and our crippled economy.
“It shouldn’t be a big deal, because he wasn’t elected legitimately in the first place!”
Mr Trump’s election dig is in reference to his complaints over the 2020 US election which he claims was not won by the Biden administration.
Under the former president’s administration, a deal was brokered with the Taliban in Doha 2020 to withdraw US troops from the nation in exchange for security guarantees from the militants.
The original withdrawal date was set to May 2021, but when Mr Biden took office this year, he pushed back the deadline.
Mr Trump added: “What Joe Biden has done with Afghanistan is legendary
“It will go down as one of the greatest defeats in American history!”
The 75-year-old has been a harsh critic of the president, having previously stated the withdrawal would have been “much different and much more successful” under his leadership.

“And that has happened more quickly than we anticipated.”
Mr Biden, who is currently residing at Camp David, has reportedly been briefed on the ongoing situation in Afghanistan.
Mr Blinken added: “We’ve known all along, that the Taliban was at its greatest position of strength at any time since 2001 when it was last in charge of the country.
“That is the Taliban that we inherited. And so we saw they were very much capable of going on the offensive and beginning to take back the country.”
