It was 44 years ago on Monday that Elvis Presley died at the age of just 42. While today is the anniversary of The King’s funeral, which took place in Memphis, Tennessee as fans lined the city’s streets to pay their respects. One of those present was Elvis’ girlfriend of four years Linda Thompson, who has now shared photos of herself from that terribly sad day in 1977.
Linda posted a couple of pictures of herself from August 18, 1977, at Elvis’ funeral on her Instagram stories.
The first sees her standing outside mourning next to a Shelby County police escort motorbike, presumably for the hearse.
While another less clear snap sees her standing with others as Elvis singing They Remind Me Too Much Of You is played over the Instagram story.
Linda broke up amicably with The King in late 1976 after living with him at Graceland for four years.

The former Miss Tennessee model wanted to have a more normal life and the two stayed friends for the rest of Elvis’ life.
The King’s last girlfriend was Ginger Alden, who discovered his body upstairs at Graceland after he had a heart attack on the toilet in his ensuite bathroom.
On August 16, the anniversary of Elvis’ death, Linda posted a touching tribute to her old flame.
The 71-year-old’s post included footage of Elvis singing What Now My Love from the 1973 show Aloha From Hawaii, plus lots of photos of them together as a couple.
Linda captioned that post: “Elvis week has commenced in Memphis. For the fans – you can look past our three wheeled vehicle to see how Elvis Presley Blvd. used to look.
“Interestingly, there are only two people in history whose birth & death are remembered & commemorated by tens of thousands of people all over the world each & every year…In a non-Covid year, thousands of people gather at Graceland for a candlelight ceremony on August 16th -the day of Elvis’s death.
“Festivals are held all over the world on January 8th to celebrate Elvis‘s birth. Elvis would be astonished, staggered, humbled, & deeply gratified to know that he is still loved & remembered all these years later…
“Thank you to all the true fans for never letting his legacy nor his music die.”
