Next James Bond: 007 producers on franchise future after Daniel Craig and TV spin-offs | Films | Entertainment

After 15 years in the role, Daniel Craig is finally handing in his Licence to Kill with No Time To Die next month. As for the next James Bond and the future of the franchise, the 007 producers are going to have to get planning soon if they haven’t already. And with Amazon buying Bond studio MGM, are there TV spin-offs on the way?
Speaking with Total Film, Barbara Broccoli said it was tough to think about the future of Bond until after No Time To Die has had its moment, admitting they want to focus on celebrating Craig’s tenure as 007.
But the Bond producer did say: “And then when the dust settles, then look at the landscape and figure out what the future is.
“Although I think one thing we’ve certainly learned in the last 18 months is you never know what the future is. So we have to sit down and think about it.”
As for any Bond universe TV shows, for both Broccoli and fellow Bond producer Micheal G Wilson presumably it would be a big fat Dr No?

Broccoli said: “You got it”, while Wilson added: “We’ve resisted that call for 60 years.”
As for what the future hold for Bond 26 and the new 007 star, the pair are interested in “experimenting and pushing the boundaries” of the franchise after the risks of the Craig era paid of,f claims Bond expert Mark Edlitz.
Last year, Express.co.uk spoke with the author of The Lost Adventures of James Bond, who has interviewed many of the key 007 franchise players over the years.
Edlitz said: “Three-time Bond screenwriter Bruce Feirstein told me that Barbara Broccoli and Michael G Wilson know where the dead ends are in the scripting stage.”
Edlitz continued: “While Richard Maibaum, who wrote 13 Bond scripts, talked about the collaborative nature of writing a 007 film.
“The screenwriter said that he would sit in a room with producers Albert ‘Cubby’ Broccoli, Harry Saltzman, as well as the director, production designer and editor and everyone would pitch ideas.
“Everyone I’ve spoken with said that the producers are collaborative and are welcoming of new ideas.
However, they’ve been down this road so many times and they have a responsibility to protect the long-term interests of the franchise.”
Of course, director Danny Boyle and screenwriter John Hodge famously left Bond 25 over “creative differences”, although the author is in the dark on what went on behind-the-scenes with that particular lost Bond adventure.
Nevertheless, Edlitz said: “But the Daniel Craig Bond films took risks that to some would seem unfathomable years before.”
On where the Bond franchise could go next, he added: “I think EON is clearly interested in experimenting and pushing the boundaries in what is expected in a Bond film.”
No Time To Die hits UK cinemas on September 30, 2021.
