Legendary singer of The Who, Daltrey, today announced a brand new tour titled Who Was I? UK Tour. The string of gigs, that kick off Birmingham, will span two months, from November to December this year. Fans of the singer will be thrilled to learn the star will not only be playing some of his own hits but a collection of classics from The Who’s back catalogue as well.

The gigs have been billed as “special evenings” complete with a question and answer (Q&A) segment, where Daltrey can get into the nitty gritty of his career.

Comprised of a “unique mix of music and conversation”, the Who Was I? UK Tour is being called “shows for real music fans”.

Daltrey said of the gig: “The truth is: Singers need to sing. Use it or lose it.”

Daltrey explained: “Throughout my life, I have sung with so many great musicians, from the heavy rock of The Who and Wilko Johnson to the Irish lilt of The Chieftains.

“On this tour, I want to take the audience on a musical journey through my career as a singer, with a show of songs and sounds that explores and surprises.

“I look forward to having closer contact with my audience than festivals and arenas allow. Leaving time to chat.”

Daltrey added that the tour is also an opportunity to help those around him who have been affected by the ongoing pandemic.

He said: “It’s important to get our road crew working again, without these guys the halls would go silent.

“It’s also clear that live music is an important part of all our lives, something to free us from the groundhog days that life has become.

“This pandemic has brought home to me what an important part of me singing is and it’s made me determined to get back onstage ASAP. See you soon!”

The Who’s singer is playing across 12 cities in the UK, ending in Bournemouth.

The announcement comes just months after The Who cancelled their UK and Ireland tour which was scheduled to begin in March 2021.

In a statement, Daltrey and fellow The Who member Pete Townshend said: “We are very sorry that we have to cancel our planned March 2021 UK and Ireland shows.

“Please excuse the delay but we wanted to wait as long as possible to see if we could indeed play them. However, as you can see the current situation makes this impossible. Thanks for all your wonderful support and we hope to see you in the future when conditions allow.”
