The 74-year-old singer announced he was postponing his retirement tour last month after an awkward fall during the summer which left him with an injured hip.

After revealing he is to have an operation on his hip, Elton said: “I’ll be all right in a couple of months”.

He added: “I’m limping a bit. I’ve had to postpone limbo dancing for a little while.

“I’m going to have my hip operated on early in October and then I shall be recuperating and doing my physiotherapy and hopefully I’ll be all right in a couple of months. So fingers crossed.”

In his announcement of the tour rescheduling, he said it was with “great sadness and a heavy heart” that he had been forced to reschedule the upcoming tour dates due to the hip injury.

The singer was originally due to embark on tour dates around Europe and the UK between October and December this year. The dates were scheduled as part of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.

In his statement at the time, Elton said: “At the end of my summer break I fell awkwardly on a hard surface and have been in considerable pain and discomfort in my hip ever since.

Elton went on to add: “Despite intensive physio and specialist treatment, the pain has continued to get worse and is leading to increasing difficulties moving. I have been advised to have an operation as soon as possible to get me back to full fitness and make sure there are no long-term complications.

“I will be undertaking a programme of intensive physiotherapy that will ensure a full recovery and a return to full mobility without pain.”

The singer, whose hits include I’m still standing and Your Song, is releasing a new collaborative album on October 22 which is called The Lockdown Sessions.

He has admitted that he had never met many of the stars that he collaborates with on the latest album. Some stars that are featured include Dua Lipa and Olly Alexander.

The tour had already been postponed a year from 2020 because of the pandemic.

It is now expected to take place in 2023.
