‘No way to start a marriage!’: Martin Lewis shares advice on engagement ring purchase

Speaking on his ITV show, The Martin Lewis Money Show Live, the money expert gave some recommendations on how people can save money on their monthly bills – including cinema tickets and engagement rings.
Martin Lewis talked about energy bills during his energy crisis special show, as well as cheap cinema tickets and engagement rings.
The money expert explained what is the best option when planning on buying an engagement ring.
A viewer asked Martin if he should buy a branded and very expensive engagement ring to propose to his girlfriend or if he should get one from a local jeweller and put it in a box from the brand his girlfriend wants.
“She knows it’s happening, we’ve talked about rings,” the viewer said.

The Money Saving Expert addressed the same question on social media: “Should a man propose with the expensive branded ring his girlfriend wants OR get a near identical, same spec ring for far less made by a local jeweller and put it in a branded box? #MartinLewis”
The show audience voted with the majority saying he should go for the expensive and branded ring.
However, on Twitter, most users voted “Buy unbranded ring” while only 20 percent saying he should buy the “branded ring.”
After seeing the results of the poll, Martin said: “Buy the unbranded one but don’t lie about that. That’s no way to start a marriage!”

The money expert also talked about ways Britons can get free cinema tickets.
Martin revealed O2 customers have free Odeon monthly tickets via the Priority app with 10,000 new tickets released every Tuesday.
“Be online on the Tuesday and you should be able to get before they sell out,” he recommended.
Vodafone customers have two Vue tickets for only £7 any day of the week using My Vodafone app.
“If you don’t want any of these products, go get yourself one day UK travel insurance policy.
“That cost a pound.
“And that is a qualifying policy.
“Then you get a year’s two for one for a year for a pound. Enjoy!”
