Adele fans have been waiting for the British singer’s next album for more than five years. Earlier this month the star came out of her hibernation and announced a new track is due out soon, Easy On Me. This single leads up to the release of her fourth album – which is rumoured to be titled 30. In a new interview, Adele revealed how the album will be a look inside her life during the breakdown of her marriage, as well as a blueprint for her son, Angelo.
Adele split with her husband, Simon Konecki, in 2019.
This week the singer played some of her new song on an Instagram Live, where she was asked what the song and the rest of the album is about.
Laughing into the camera she said: “Divorce, baby. Divorce!”
Earlier this week she spoke about the song’s inspiration, saying: “That one is obviously about stuff that happened, but I wanted to put it on the album to show Angelo what I expect him to treat his partner like.” (Via Vogue)
Adele continued: “Whether it be a woman or a man or whatever. After going through a divorce, my requirements are sky-high. There’s a very big pair of shoes to fill.”
She also explained how the album acts as an explanation to her son about why she split with his father.
“My son has had a lot of questions,” she revealed. “Really good questions, really innocent questions, that I just don’t have an answer for. [Such as:] ‘Why can’t you still live together?'”
She added: “I just felt like I wanted to explain to him, through this record, when he’s in his twenties or thirties, who I am and why I voluntarily chose to dismantle his entire life in the pursuit of my own happiness.”
Adele revealed the end of her nuptials was more “drift than explosion”.
She went on: “It just wasn’t… It just wasn’t right for me anymore. I didn’t want to end up like a lot of other people I knew.
“I wasn’t miserable miserable, but I would have been miserable had I not put myself first. But, yeah, nothing bad happened or anything like that.”
Since talks of Adele’s album have begun, her odds on returning to Glastonbury have improved greatly.
The star last hit the festival’s headline spot in 2017. And the odds suggest she could be doing the same in 2022.
Currently, the star has 1/2 odds on claiming the top spot – the same as The Beatles star Sir Paul McCartney.
