Former Countryfile presenter Julia Bradbury has revealed she’s completed her mastectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer.
The 51-year-old tweeted a picture from her hospital bed.
She said she had “overwhelming” anxiety before the op and that she was “sad that such a brutal procedure is necessary”.
However, she added: “Now I feel relief.”
Bradbury said she would have to wear a specially designed bra for the next six weeks to protect her body after the op.
The TV presenter also sent a message of support to others with the disease: “To all you warrior women (& men) out there, I send my love.”
She received an outpouring of support on social media, including from many others who have come through breast cancer.
Eleanor Thomson posted: “Wishing you a smooth recovery – both emotional and physical. It is brutal, there’s no doubt, but you’ll find new and unexpected strength along the way.”
The mum-of-three revealed last month that she was to get surgery after the cancer showed up in a mammogram.
On Friday, she posted a picture of her body as she prepared for the mastectomy.
She tweeted: “Goodbye left boob. Thank you. I’ve breastfed my children w/you, I’ve jumped into the sea, I’ve walked thousands of miles with you.
“Now it’s time for something new. Wise is the one who flavours the future with some salt from the past.”
Bradbury has encouraged her followers to check themselves for breast cancer, highlighting that “one person every 10 minutes” gets diagnosed in the UK.
