‘No!’ Paul McCartney finally reveals how The Beatles REALLY broke up | Music | Entertainment

It’s been over 50 years since The Beatles broke up after the release of their final album Let It Be. Much ink has been spilt speculating over why the band broke up and who really instigated it. In 1970 there was a famous front page of The Mirror titles “Paul quits The Beatles”, while Paul McCartney sued the band to dissolve their contractual partnership.
However, Paul McCartney is adamant that The Beatles split because John Lennon wanted to quit, not him.
The 79-year-old told BBC Radio 4: “I’m not the person who instigated the split.
“John walked into the room one day and said I’m leaving The Beatles and he said ‘It’s quite thrilling, it’s like a divorce.’ And then we were there to pick up the pieces.
“I didn’t instigate the split. That was our Johnny, coming in one day and saying I’m leaving the group.”

Paul was then asked if John hadn’t come in and said that could he have seen The Beatles continuing?
He said: “It could have been. The point of it really was that John was making a new life with Yoko.
“He wanted to lie in bed for a week, he stood for peace. You couldn’t argue with that.
“It was the most difficult period of my life. The Beatles, were breaking up and this was my band, this was my job, this was my life.”
Jackson has shown McCartney the footage and convinced him that The Beatles didn’t want to break up.
The director said: “In many respects, Michael Lindsay-Hogg’s remarkable footage captured multiple storylines. The story of friends and of individuals.
“It is the story of human frailties and of a divine partnership. It is a detailed account of the creative process, with the crafting of iconic songs under pressure, set amid the social climate of early 1969. But it’s not nostalgia – it’s raw, honest, and human.
“Over six hours [of my film], you’ll get to know The Beatles with an intimacy that you never thought possible.”
Jackson added: “I’ve been immersed in this project for nearly three years, and I’m very excited that audiences around the world will finally be able to see it.”
The Beatles: Get Back will also feature the band’s final live performance on the roof of Apple Corps HQ on Savile Row.
While the three-part documentary streams on Disney+ from November 25, 26 and 27, 2021.
