For around six decades, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones have had a friendly rivalry. And just last month Paul McCartney took a cheeky jab at Mick Jagger’s band. In fact, the 79-year-old referred to The Rolling Stones as a cover band.
Speaking with The New Yorker, Paul McCartney said: “[The Beatles’] net was cast a bit wider than [The Rolling Stones].
“I’m not sure I should say it, but they’re a blues cover band, that’s sort of what the Stones are.”
In response, Mick Jagger has taken a quick swipe back at McCartney during The Rolling Stones concert in Los Angeles on Thursday.
The 78-year-old was recorded addressing the audience saying: “There’s so many celebrities here tonight.”

Jagger continued: “Megan Fox is here, she’s lovely. Leonardo DiCaprio. Lady Gaga. Kirk Douglas.
“Paul McCartney is here, he’s going to help us – he’s going to join us in a blues cover later.”
The Beatles star poked similar fun at The Rolling Stones during an interview last year.
Speaking with Howard Stern, McCartney said: “Their stuff’s rooted in the blues. When they are writing stuff, it has to do with the blues.”
Meanwhile, The Rolling Stones have just lost their drummer Charlie Watts and have been paying tribute to him at recent concerts.
The LA show at SoFi Stadium opened with a tribute to the 80-year-old, who died in August.
After showing a montage of images of Watts, Jagger came out said: “It was great to see those images of Charlie up there on screen right now.
“It reminds us of all those years we had together. We’d like to dedicate this show to him, so here’s to Charlie!”
