Harry Potter director calls for The Cursed Child film with some original stars | Films | Entertainment

The first Harry Potter film, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, was released back in 2001. Following the film’s enormous success, it spawned seven more films, finishing in 2011 with Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows Part 2, which closed out the adventure. But Harry’s story didn’t end there.
In 2016 Harry Potter and the Cursed Child hit the stage in London, continuing Harry’s story alongside that of Hermione, Ron, and all their children.
The story’s script was also published in book form, which continued the tradition of the literary phenomenon.
The events of the story take place 19 years after The Deathly Hallows Part 2, and The Philosopher’s Stone director Chris Columbus has revealed his “dream” to bring it to life on the big screen.
In a new interview, he said: “I would love to direct The Cursed Child … It’s a small fantasy of mine.”
He added: “It’s a great play and the kids are actually the right age to play those roles.”

The “kids” Columbus is referring to are the Harry, Ron and Hermione actors Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson.
The trio are 32, 33 and 31-years-old respectively, making them the perfect ages to play their future counterparts in the Harry Potter universe.
He also commented on one of his favourite scenes in the first movie which reduced him to tears.
At the moment, there has been no official news about any kind of on-screen adaptation of The Cursed Child.
Fans will simply have to continue hoping for a film to be brought to cinemas in the near future, as well as hope the original actors will reprise their roles.
The Cursed Child was written by Jack Thorne with Harry Potter author JK Rowling and John Tiffany providing the story, so it has a staggering pedigree to it.
But, for now, it seems as if Warner Bros are working on continuing the prequel series, Fantastic Beasts.
The next movie in the series, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore, is due to hit cinemas in the next six months.
However, it will be with a massive change in casting. Grindelwald star Johnny Depp was axed from the movie after his public court battle against his ex-wife, Amber Heard.
The Pirates of the Caribbean star has since been replaced by Mads Mikkelsen.
The Harry Potter films are available on NOW.
