However, due to irregularities when it comes to average earnings growth the process was scrapped for the 2022-23 tax year.

Consequently, the state pension will be rising by 3.1 percent next year – which brings it in line with inflation.

In its full entitlement, the new state pension will rise from £179.60 to £185.15 – an increase of £5.55 per week.
