Princess Diana’s most iconic jewellery in pictures
[ad_1]
The late Princess Diana built up an impressive jewellery stash during her lifetime. Following the Princess’ death in 1997, her jewellery collection was divided between her two sons Prince William and Prince Harry, and their wives Kate, Duchess of Cambridge and Meghan Markle have frequently been seen wearing pieces from their late mother-in-law’s collection. Here are five of Princess Diana’s most iconic jewellery pieces.
Aquamarine ring
Princess Diana was pictured wearing an aquamarine ring following her divorce from Prince Charles in 1996.
Paul Hird, head of luxury auctions at John Pye Luxury, told Express.co.uk: “The ring consists of emerald cut aquamarine amongst small solitaire diamonds set within 24-carat yellow gold.
“The aquamarine was gifted to Diana by her friend, Lucia Flecha de Lima, and was then commissioned into a ring in 1996 by Asprey.”
Sapphire engagement ring
Princess Diana’s sapphire engagement ring is considered one of the most iconic royal engagement rings, and it now belongs to Prince William’s wife Kate, Duchess of Cambridge.
Mr Hird said: “Princess Diana’s engagement ring is arguably the most impressive ring amongst all the royal engagement rings.
“Her ring consisted of a 12-carat oval blue Ceylon sapphire surrounded by 14 diamonds and set in 18K white gold.”
Collingwood pearl earrings
Mr Hird said: “Gifted from Collingwood Jewellers in London, Diana’s Collingwood pearl earrings are recognised nationwide.”
Princess Diana often accessorised her Collingwood pearl earrings with the Lover’s Knot Tiara at official royal engagements.
Mr Hird added: “Due to the style and timeless design of the earrings, it made it easy for the Princess to pair the earrings with any daytime or night-time occasions.”
Spencer Tiara
Princess Diana wore the Spencer Tiara for her 1981 wedding to Prince Charles and on several occasions afterwards.
The Spencer Tiara doesn’t belong to the Royal Family, as it has been a Spencer family heirloom for some time.
Mr Hird explained: “Belonging to the family for over a century, the Spencer Tiara was eventually passed down to Diana, and like many brides before her, she wore it on her wedding day in July 1981 as a touching family gesture, instead of borrowing one from her new mother-in-law.”
Butterfly earrings
Princess Diana owned a pair of beautiful butterfly diamond earrings which have recently been worn by the Duchess of Sussex.
Mr Hird said: “Amongst the beautiful collection of jewellery belonging to the late Princess Diana there were a pair of stunning, uniquely designed butterfly earrings.
“As a tribute, Meghan and Harry have made sure to keep them in the eye of the public by wearing them to a variety of events.”
