Emmanuel Jean-Michel Frédéric Macron, sometimes known as Jupiter or Napoléon to the French media, has served as the president of France for about five and a half years. But who was the French politician before he was appointed president? Express.co.uk has uncovered some incredible old photographs of Macron (thanks to the ‘Macron, la strategie du météor’ documentary on France 3) and breaks down the story behind each frame.
Emmanuel Macron is the youngest president in French history and the youngest French head of state since Napoleon, so what was this successful man doing before he was appointed?
He was born on December 21, 1977, in Amiens, a city and commune north of Paris.
His parents Françoise and Jean-Michel were together until 2010, so Macron grew up with both parents and his two siblings in the household.
Even though the President is agnostic today and was raised in a non-religious family, he was baptised a Catholic by his own request at age 12.
The young Mr Macron was deemed as a mature young person, always preferring to spend time with elders than people his own age.
For example, he was known to have dinners with his teachers and ignore the flirtations of girls his own age.
Emmanuel was considered an excellent student at the Jesuit institute Lycée la Providence but was sent to the elite Lycée Henri-IV in Paris to finish the high school curriculum and the undergraduate program for a scandalous reason.

You might know more about Mr Macron’s noteworthy relationship with his wife than his policies, and their partnership is the reason why he had to study elsewhere for his final year of school.
As you may know, the President is currently married to Brigitte Trogneux, who is 24 years his senior and his former teacher.
The pair met during a theatre workshop that Brigitte was teaching when Emmanuel was just 15 years old, making her 39 at the time.
Mr Macron and Brigitte only became an official couple once he turned 18, but the now-President’s parents weren’t happy about the match and viewed it as inappropriate.
They sent their son to the Paris school for his final year of study in an attempt to split the couple up, but Emmanuel and Brigitte reunited after Mr Macron graduated. The couple were married in 2007 when he was 29.
After graduating from the École Nationale D’administration (ENA), Mr Macron became an inspector in the Inspection générale des finances, which is a branch of the Finance Ministry.
In August 2007, he was appointed deputy rapporteur for Jacques Attali’s (a French economic and social theorist, writer, political adviser who served as President Francois Mitterrand’s adviser until 1991) “Commission to Unleash French Growth”.

Mr Macron would have been 28 years old in this photograph, and the following year he would pay €50,000 to buy himself out of his government contract and become an investment banker at Rothschild & Cie Banque (where he earned almost €3 million. Between 2009 and 2013).
Then, in 2010 he was appointed to the Attali Comission as a member.
It wasn’t until 2021 that he became the deputy secretary to the general of the Élysée, a senior role in President François Hollande’s staff.
Mr Macron resigned in 2014 to “continue personal aspirations” and create his own investment firm that would attempt to fund educational projects.
He was then employed at the University of Berlin as a research fellow, ad in 2014 in his hometime of Amiens Macron was offered the chance to be a candidate in the municipal elections but refused.
In August 2014, Mr Macron was appointed as the Minister of Economy and Industry (becoming the youngest person in this position since 1962) and announced he was considering running for president in April 2016.
