Why is there an extra bank holiday in 2022?

There is a lot to celebrate in the coming year and the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee is just one of the key dates for your diary.

This once in a lifetime celebration is the first of its kind for the British monarchy and will see the nation celebrate 70 years of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign.

As the world watches the celebrations, Britons will also enjoy an extra bank holiday weekend.

The much anticipated break will begin on Thursday, June 2 offering a four day weekend.

Leading travel money retailer, Eurochange told Express.co.uk: “This year, thanks to the extra bank holiday for the Queen’s Jubilee in June, you could transform just 22 days of annual leave into a whopping 54 days off.

“That would give you 15 percent of the entire year away from your desk and the chance to take six week-long holidays.”
