Next James Bond odds: Marvel star now just behind favourites Tom Hardy and Regé-Jean Page | Films | Entertainment

After 15 years in the role, Daniel Craig bowed out spectacularly in No Time To Die. And as the new year sees fans celebrate the 60th anniversary of the James Bond film franchise, speculation continues to be rife over who could be the next 007. Just last week, producer Barbara Broccoli admitted a certain Marvel star had been part of the conversation over the last few years.
Speaking on Deadline’s Crew Call podcast, Broccoli was asked if Marvel’s Heimdall star Idris Elba had ever been considered for the next Bond.
The 007 producer said: “Well, we know Idris, we’re friends with him, and he’s a magnificent actor. And, y’know, it’s been part of the conversation, but it’s always difficult to have the conversation when you have someone in the seat.”
Since then, Elba’s odds have been slashed, with bookmakers Coral reporting strong support for the 49-year-old in the last 24 hours.
The Luther actor is now on 4-1, just behind frontrunner favourite Tom Hardy on 7-2 and Regé-Jean page on 5-2.

Of course, it’s worth pointing out that at almost 50-years-old, Elba may be too old, not to mention too famous, to play Bond next.
Perhaps the 007 producers will be on the lookout for a younger rising star who isn’t so much of a household name, just as was the case when Craig was cast as Bond in 2005.
Other next 007 contenders at the bookies include James Norton on 5-1, Richard Madden on 7-1 and Jamie Dornan on 8-1.
Additionally, there’s Jamie Bell on 10-1, Tom Hiddleston on 12-1, Sam Heughan on 12-1, Riz Ahmed on 12-1 and Henry Golding on 14-1.
