Camilla Parker Bowles: Duchess is ‘not afraid’ to wear Diana’s jewellery

[ad_1]

People wear jewellery for various reasons, and not only because they like the way they look. Camilla Parker Bowles, for example, not only wears her pieces because they match her skin tone or hair, but also because they signify her personal relationships.

Recently, Camilla has been seen wearing a couple of gold bracelets, as well as two unique-looking bracelets.

One gold bracelet is a thin chain featuring a gold cross, while the other is a Van Cleef and Arpels bracelet.

The latter has pendants dangling from it in the shape of four-leaf clovers.

Speaking about why Camilla may prefer to wear gold rather than silver, Charlotte White, head of design at Europe’s largest online diamond jeweller, 77 Diamonds, said: “There is a brilliant way in which gold compliments blonde hair.

Charlotte commented on the friendship bracelet, saying: “The Duchess of Cornwall has been seen wearing an understated blue friendship bracelet made of twisted fabric since late 2020 – a far cry from her more traditional, regal tiaras and statement necklaces.

“Camilla has also been seen wearing a bracelet on a delicate gold chain, adorned with a sideways cross and evil eye: a millennia-old symbol designed to ward off unwelcome attention.”

Charlotte added: “Camilla loves her bracelets.”

The evil eye bracelet – which features a small nazar that looks like a blue eye, as well as a delicate cross – is not new, but has a significant meaning from various parts of history, including from ancient Jewish literature and from Islam.

The nazar is supposed to ward off the presence of the evil eye, which is thought to be a curse cast by a malevolent glare that can cause injury or misfortune, according to ancient wisdom.

According to Charlotte, Camilla’s bracelets, as well as other pieces in her jewellery collection, “reflect her personal relationships”.

She highlighted: “From her diamond serpent necklace gifted by Prince Charles to the diamond and ruby semi-parure gifted by Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah.”

A silver necklace in the shape of a snake and featuring round and square cut diamonds, the diamond serpent necklace was given to Camilla by her husband in 2001.

The Duchess has worn it on several occasions, including at a banquet in Buckingham Palace on October 25, 2005.

Charlotte went on to point out that Camilla “does not shy away from wearing pieces once worn by Princess Diana and is sometimes seen adding her own personality to them”.

An example of this is when she “transformed an emerald and diamond necklace Diana was photographed in at the Vienna Burg Theatre in 1986, into a brooch”.

Diana’s choker had a detachable pendant hanging from it, featuring the Prince of Wales feathers and a small emerald stone.

Camilla, meanwhile, years later, wore the detachable pendant on its own as a brooch.
