Captain America, a fan favourite from the Avengers films, is undergoing an almighty overhaul as Sam star Anthony Mackie is officially taking over Chris Evans’ role for the next chapter in the Marvel story. The actor has now shed light on just how different his take on the superhero will be in Disney Plus series The Winter Soldier and the Falcon. Fans flocked to Twitter to share their thoughts.
In the wake of the news, which was announced by actor Mackie himself, many were thrilled.
“Anthony Mackie’s agent is doing a brilliant job,” one person declared.
Another praised: “I love me some Anthony Mackie.”
“I’m excited to binge it,” a third enthused.

“Well that’s a heavy loaded question,” he began. “The Disney Plus thing is interesting, because you really get to experience these characters now. You get to live with them. So you’re getting six to eight hours of each character, as opposed to a two hour movie, where each character had a moment.
“So you really get to know Sam Wilson, you really get to know Bucky Barnes, as individuals and human beings, and their thoughts and feelings.
So I’m excited for people to see that part of Sam because in Avengers and Captain America he really was just there for a brief time, whenever Steve needed him, but now you get to see the ins and outs of his home life.”
The star continued: “So these shows are very different than the movies. These shows are art pieces. They’re individual. They’re not origin stories, they’re more a day in the life story.
“And, with the idea of being a black man and becoming Captain America, it’s been a daunting task, because I think at this day and age in America, I think we are openminded to the idea of having my face represent us as a country, my race represent us as a country, because we’re truly a melting pot.”
“There is no distinctive look or feel or design of an American,” Mackie went on. “We’re all Americans.
“So to be Captain America, I want my version to represent everybody, not just a specific group of people.”
The Winter Soldier and The Falcon is set to air on Disney Plus and will follow Sam and Bucky Barnes, played by Sebastian Stan as they embark on life without original Captain America Steve.
