Freddie Mercury was well-known for his great sense of humour, which was often self-deprecating. But his close friend and interviewer has revealed in new video podcast series Finding Freddie that you could not tell the Queen singer what to do. David Wigg interviewed the star a number of times; most famously in Munich as Freddie was embarking as a solo artist.

In Episode 3 – Interviewing Freddie, Wigg revealed how the singer didn’t want to do press around the world so requested his journalist friend fly out to Munich for one big one in 1985.

The interviewer said how Freddie was “always professional but very strong-willed, you couldn’t tell him what to do”.

Wigg also admitted: “He could get bored.”

It turns out during that interview his PR wanted Freddie to do individual messages for lots of different fans around the world, but the star soon got fed up.

The Queen guitarist said: “Hey ! Your friendly neighbourhood rock star here – having moments of wondering whether he will ever do that thing on stage again. 

“Those incredible scenes at our concerts in South Korea, Japan, New Zealand and Australia just a month ago now seem like an impossibly distant dream.

“But we were so lucky to be able to complete that tour, running just ahead of the wave that was about to break on us all.”

So far only one date on the next leg of their tour has been cancelled.

It happens to be AccorHotels Arena in Paris, France on May 26.

Interestingly, the Italian date in Bologna two days earlier still hasn’t been postponed despite Italy being the worst-hit country in Europe by the coronavirus.

Luckily for Queen and Adam Lambert, their most recent tour dates finished just before March and they have no planned dates until May 24.

Fans will have to wait and see if any more concerts are to be postponed due to the pandemic.
