Winds of Winter: Will Winds of Winter be finished before The She-Wolves of Winterfell? | Books | Entertainment

At the moment, we do not have much information from George RR Martin about the book’s release date.

One thing he has suggested is that the book will be ready before the New Zealand festival Worldcon in July 2020.

George RR Martin has been named the Master of Ceremonies at WorldCon, a science fiction convention which takes place annually.

This year an airline even offered Martin free airfare to New Zealand so he can finish The Winds of Winter in peace.

However, in a blog post, Martin said: “If I don’t have THE WINDS OF WINTER in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for WorldCon 2020, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I’m done.

“Just so long as the acrid fumes do not screw up my old DOS word processor, I’ll be fine.”

Of course, coronavirus made it a little uncertain, and the fate of WorldCon is currently unknown.

But Martin has told everyone while he is isolation he has got a lot of writing done.

He posted on his blog: “For those of you who may be concerned for me personally… yes, I am aware that I am very much in the most vulnerable population, given my age and physical condition.

“But I feel fine at the moment, and we are taking all sensible precautions.

“I am off by myself in a remote isolated location, attended by one of my staff, and I’m not going in to town or seeing anyone.

“Truth be told, I am spending more time in Westeros than in the real world, writing every day.

“Things are pretty grim in the Seven Kingdoms… but maybe not as grim as they may become here.”

Will The Winds of Winter be done before The She-Wolves of Winterfell?

The She-Wolves of Winterfell is the working title given to the unpublished fourth Tales of Dunk and Egg novella, which is believed to have been intended as an anthology.

However, it has been delayed, and now fans are wondering whether Martin will finish The Winds of Winter before he starts work on it.

Back in 2014, however, Martin laid these concerns to rest.

He wrote on his blog: “The unfinished novella was indeed set in Winterfell, and involved a group of formidable Stark wives, widows, mothers, and grandmothers that I dubbed ‘the She-Wolves,’ but The She-Wolves of Winterfell was never meant to be more than a working title…

“There’s no telling when I will have time to finish either of these, or which one I will write first. I don’t expect I will know more until I’ve delivered THE WINDS OF WINTER.”

Clearly The Winds of Winter is the priority for Martin, but it’s still unknown as to when it will come out.
