George RR Martin is an author whose books are thoroughly well sought after. He writes sci-fi and fantasy novels like no others, and his books are well-loved. He has just announced a new release date on his website, Not A Blog, but is it for The Winds of Winter?
Unfortunately for fans of the A Song of Ice and Fire series, this release date is not for The Winds of Winter, but another book Martin has been working on.
George RR Martin has also edited a huge number of volumes as part of the Wild Cards series, and now it turns out another book is on its way.
The book, named Texas Hold ‘Em, is now available for purchase, and Martin spoke out about it on his website.
These books are not all written by Martin, but instead edited by them, and the series itself has more than forty authors involved.
He said: “TEXAS HOLD ‘EM is the twenty-seventh volume of the Wild Cards series, and the third in our America Triad… but it stands alone just fine, and you do not have to have read any of the preceding volumes to enjoy it.
“It’s the story of a group of kids from Xavier Desmond High in Jokertown travelling to San Antonio for a jazz band competition, and all that befalls them there, starring an all star cast of favorite characters both old (Mr. Nobody, Jade Blossom, and Bubbles) and new (Rubberband, Bacho, Skeeter, The Darkness and The Dust)…
“The Wild Cards universe is vast, and contains both darkness and light. TEXAS HOLD ‘EM is one of our lighter outings, a good fun read.
“If that’s what you are looking for during these grim days of isolation and quarantine, give it a try. I think you will enjoy it.”
Writers who took part in this book include Caroline Spector, William F. Wu, Walton Simons, David Anthony Durham, Max Gladstone, Diana Rowland, and the late Victor Milan.
With regards to The Winds of Winter, Martin has opened up on that, revealing it is the only thing he is currently working on while in isolation.
He said in an earlier post on Not A Blog: “For those of you who may be concerned for me personally… yes, I am aware that I am very much in the most vulnerable population, given my age and physical condition.
“But I feel fine at the moment, and we are taking all sensible precautions. I am off by myself in a remote isolated location, attended by one of my staff, and I’m not going in to town or seeing anyone.
“Truth be told, I am spending more time in Westeros than in the real world, writing every day. Things are pretty grim in the Seven Kingdoms… but maybe not as grim as they may become here.”
Many may have been concerned that, for Martin, he would become distracted and work on other books, however in a later post, he said: “I am still up in the mountains, doing the social distancing rag, and writing WINDS OF WINTER.
“I have good days and bad days, but I am making progress.”
Let’s hope that progress comes very soon indeed.
