B&Q, the DIY giant, said “having watched other essential retailer support social distancing measures”, it has decided to open its doors again. B&Q shops have been closed since the end of March, leaving customers with click and collect services as their only option to buy products. B&Q says it’s now in a position to “follow best practice” on hygiene and social distancing measures in a bid to keep staff and customers safe. The Paisley and West Thurrock stores reopened on Friday, April 17, while 12 more stores opened on Saturday, April 18. But now a total of 61 stores have reopened – and you can find the full list here.
What time will the stores be open?
B&Q shops will be open to customers from 8am until 5pm every day.
Click and Collect, however, is temporarily suspended at all the stores except Paisley.
A B&Q spokesperson said: “As an essential retailer, we’ve watched other essential retailers support social distancing in their stores and are now in a position to follow best practice and reopen a small number of our stores as a trial, while keeping our colleagues and customers safe.
“We’re strictly limiting the number of customers in store at any one time, and so customers may need to queue before entering the store.”

The spokesperson added: “We’re urging all customers to follow the Government’s social distancing guidelines and to shop responsibly only for what is necessary.”
Since the store closed its doors back in March, customers have been forced to enter a queueing system on its website.
For people using the Click and Collect service outside of the fourteen open stores, B&Q says customers still have to join the queuing service.
The website states: “We are using a virtual queue to limit the number of customers using the website at the same time.
“This is to give you the best possible online shopping experience.
“If using our contact-free Click+Collect service, once you’ve placed your order, we’ll let you know when it’s ready to pick up.
“Please do not travel to store until we contact you.
“Once it’s your turn, you will have 10 minutes to start your visit. Once on the site, you’ll have as long as you need.”
Screwfix and Wickes stores are also closed due to coronavirus, with click-and-collect being your only option to buy goods.
Homebase has also remained closed amid the lockdown.
